Michael Butterfield is a collaborative lawyer. He is an accredited family law Mediator, Arbitrator, and Parenting Coordinator. He is the Chair and a founding member of the CBA-BC Unbundled Section which seeks to empower litigants and increase access to Justice.
Michael has written and presented on ADR issues throughout Canada. His focus has been on mediation where there is a history of violence or where there are significant power imbalances. He has recently published an article on the Benefits of Fast Track Arbitration and how unbundled legal services can support ADR. He regularly writes and advises counsel on practice management issues.
Michael is very active in the legal and greater community. He is a former chair of CBA –ADR Victoria and a former member of the National Council. He regularly writes for the BarTalk Magazine.
Michael recently beat colorectal cancer. He has fundraised for the BC Cancer Foundation and spearheaded a number of initiatives to increase awareness of this highly preventable disease.
